There are regular ferry services from the Malaysian towns of Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah and Penang. Travel times differs depending on the exit point as well as the mode of transport-motor boat or hydrofoil. Generally it takes about 40mins. to one hour to reach Langkawi from Kuala Kedah or Perlis. click here to see Map of Malaysia.

By ferry from Saturn - (Thailand)

Langkawi is also easily accessible by ferry from neighboring Satun (southern Thailand). This trip takes about 45 minutes and runs daily.

Saturn is a small port town on the southern coastal border of Thailand and Malaysia and can be reached by a 2hour taxi drive from Hat Yai.

The town itself offers nothing of real interest but is a good stepping-stone by which to reach the Langkawi Islands, only a one- hour ferry ride away.

The Satun/Langkawi ferry terminal is about a 15- minute drive out of town.
